Hey, this is still here... how about that?

Sorry for the extended silence everyone. There's a myriad of reasons for it. Life's been busy, with a strong focus on school... I'd like to actually graduate at some point, and boy have I been taking my time. In addition, much of my gaming energy has been focused on the many, many fine indy games out there these days. That and board games.

If I ever find the time, I'd like to start modding again.. Probably not for UT3 though. Maybe UT2004 again, or if I can get over my gripes with UE3 development, maybe some fun for UDK. Or maybe Source. Ha!

Hi there. If you've downloaded The Haunted (which we highly recommend), I'm sure you are itching for a few new maps to play on. Fortunately for you, as previously mentioned, I'm addicted to the Epic forums, and have found a couple for you:

TH-LightHouse beta 3 - "They have cometh to take the lighthouse, the village, and your soul." A large, original Haunted map by John 'Wolverine' Lowe.
TH-ShangriLa beta 7 - A conversion of the UT3 stock map DM-ShangriLa for The Haunted. Brought to you by FrontAXL.

Enjoy these fine maps, and give the authors some feedback, since they are still beta.

Every day I make a point of spending some time scanning the Epic UT Mod Forums. Don't we all?
Anyway, I figured I'd point out some recent release highlights.

Mr. Crow and Harlequin -- Everybody's "favorite" UT200X character makes his UT3 debut courtesy of YourPackage.
DM-RB-Singularity-][-- Hot on the heels of the amazing DM-RB-GrayMatter, Remus releases another amazing DM map. This one's set in space near a singularity and even has a Raptor to fly around in. Remus is quickly becoming one of my favorite mappers.
Unkimbo UTIII--Thanks to PingFre@k, you can now dual wield all of UT3's deadly arsenal. Check it out and give him some feedback before the final release.

ZOMG! Reviews!

So now that Weapons of Destruction (Mod Pod) is up and running again, I have revamped our review section. And to commemorate this joyous occasion, we bring you some brand new, hot off the presses type reviewage!

First off, we have a review of the MSUC award winning Prometheus Project from Postal. This one deserves all the praise it can get.

From me, we have a review of DazJW's Assault Carbine, a nifty little weapon currently to be found on the Epic forums.

We also have another hidden forum gem for you, Warlord's Random Drop. Here's that review.

Finally, Nemephosis wrote us a review of Mr Big. I'm not sure he understood what he was supposed to be reviewing. Oh well, check it out anyway!

So I'm not entirely dead anyway. I've been working on a few UScript projects here and there. Haven't really gotten much working the way it should but hey.

The MSUC results were more than a bit discouraging, and have left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Again. Like last time. Notice how all the winners had custom models? yeah....

Randomness

So E3... sorta ... yeah. Blah beyond words this year. Penny Arcade summed it up best I think. I walked away excited about nothing that I wasn't already very excited about. Like Fallout 3. Which I am super triple pumped about now, and I think the new footage washed away most of Postal's doubts as well.

Expect an update of the SNOT soon. There was a good handful of refinement and polish I wanted to put in before releasing it, but the MSUC deadline snuck up on me. I am working on another UT3 project as well. I'm not saying exactly what yet, but it's not a death ray or an icebeam. That's all Johnny Snow.

Oh... and if you haven't seen Dark Knight yet, get out from behind that screen and go. Now!

Falling in SNOT

Evening folks. We have a couple mod releases for you tonight.

First we have a small mutator pack from Postal including Single Jump which replaces the double jump with a single higher jump. Also included is the rather nifty Falldoll, which causes players to ragdoll instead of taking falling damage. Get it here.

Next we have my Make Something Unreal contest entry, the SNOT Launcher.

The SNOT Launcher fires globs of Sentient Nefarious Organic Tarydium (SNOT) at your enemies. The SNOT will hop around the arena, actively seeking out and homing in on a foe. When it strikes its victim, it will combust into a fiery explosion.

Primary fires a long range SNOT bomb that is capable of covering significant distances.

Secondary fire drops a SNOT mine which will wait for a foe to pass by before leaping at it. The SNOT mines are color coded according to what team you are on.

The Make Something Unreal Contest has updated its page. So there are more mods, mutators and mags to download here. Perhaps sometime in the near future you may see some of those reviewed here at WoD (Hey Kangus, are we WoD again or sticking to WMP?)

Big things to come for WOD

Okay so by now, WOD (Weapons of Destruction) has pretty much lost all original meaning in the acronym, but it's not only part of the site, it basically IS the site. We're planning on bringing in what we hope is a fairly interesting review site, but it won't be just limited to UT games and such, not at all. As for specifics, well, let's just leave it at "we're right, dammit". :P

You'll just have to see.
